Confidence Corner
After nearly two years of upticks in the stock market, the last month brought a bit more volatility. We’ve had a lot of good years in the market which has lulled us into a false sense of security. The ups and downs are both part of the market, so it’s a good reminder that you’ll experience both when investing in the stock market.
People will often look at their portfolio when this sort of thing happens and ask if their portfolio is in the right place. Some people get panicked during market downturns, but having a sound strategy makes it easier to weather the storm. The response from Nathan is always, “Does this fit your plan, does this fit your time horizon, and does it still fit your risk tolerance?”
For people who feel more optimistic, a market downturn means things are on sale. People are asking if they should be more aggressive after having experienced so much growth in the past few years. Consider though what the downside of risk is. Will taking on extra risk mess up your plan? Sometimes the hardest move is to not move at all.
It all comes down to your plan. Working with an advisor can help you stay steady and focused on the end goal. If you’re worried or want to revisit your plan, reach out to your financial advisor to make sure your needs are met.
